Security on the Internet Today's information is highly interconnected by the internet. With this interconnection of computer systems through the internet comes computer crime. Breaking into computer systems, damaging information, and stealing information, more commonly known as hacking, has become extremely common on the internet. As hacking becomes more frequent, and as some would say, more of a problem, should we consider hacking a criminal activity? Information from across the world is stored on computer systems-most of which are connected, networked, to other computer systems through the internet. â€Å"In the ideal situation, this interconnection of information enables others from outside a specific computer network to access that specific computer network and its information.† (Amoroso, 2003) This has created a world in which information is extremely important and extremely easy to access, which in turn has created a government, business, and personal society that is dependant on and successful from the networked information. But this network also has its drawbacks. Besides enabling people who need to use the information for legitimate business or personal use to gain access, the network also-often unknowingly-enables unauthorized people to gain access to the information; in one way or another, no matter what kind of network security they have implemented. Gaining access to a computer system that does not intentionally allow you access is called hacking. Microsoft's Internet Explorer has it’s flaws, and criminal hackers cracker know it. In recent weeks, these evildoers have staged several well-orchestrated Internet Explorer attacks designed to steal your banking and credit card information. The result has been that you can't trust the internet. How will you know if a secure site is truly safe? Here's a look at what's wrong with internet security and what you can do to keep your data under lock and key. That issue is not the only one, but several flaws are contained within internet. Some well known and some not so well known so-called zero day attacks. All of the serious attacks also use tiny apps called keystroke-logging Trojan horses, which capture IDs, passwords, and credit card information as you type them. And all of the attacks so far happen without users even suspecting there's anything wrong. Diana Tello ENH 285 Englehart 22 Febuary 2012 Journal Entry #5: Anzia Yezierska’s â€Å"The Lost Beautifulness† Anzia Yezierska’s short story â€Å"The Lost Beautifulness,† is the portrayal of the common immigrant during the 1920’s in search of the â€Å"American dream. † The main character Hanneh Hayyeh is â€Å"tired of living like a pig,† so she does whatever it takes to fulfill her place in living this dream. Mrs. Hayyeh even idolizes her son and takes much pride in the fact that he’s in the army, fighting for her to live this dream. Another character that contributes to the way Mrs.Hayyeh perceives America is, Mrs. Peterson. Mrs. Peterson has it all; a beautiful house,stability, and money. One thing that Mrs. Peterson mentions to Mrs. Hayyeh that is very crucial is the word â€Å"democracy,† Mrs. Hayyeh completely misinterprets this word thinking that everyone in America can be financially equal. Mrs. Hayyeh has unre alistic expectations of this dream, and she later comes to realize that not everything is as good as it seems. â€Å"The Lost beautifulness,† is a story filled with many historical components.An obvious component that is seen from the start is the famous WWI, where we see Mrs. Hayyeh †worship† her son before he goes out and fights for America. Many men were drafted and took off to the war during these times, leaving behind the sad, but proud mothers. Another important historical component is â€Å"immigration,† where in the text we meet Mrs. Hayyeh, an Immigrant from Russia. A major factor that led to the rise of immigration during these times was to express freedom of religion, and feel the American Dream. Mrs.Hayyeh was a Jewish woman trying to escape oppressed Russia and coming to the U. S where she later realized that here days of oppressions were not over yet. The oppression she faced in the U. S had to do with the men in her life. First, she faces her cruel landlord who keeps increasing her rent on unjust terms. Mrs. Hayyeh relentlessly tries to fight this man’s cruel acts without any fear because she thinks America and â€Å"democracy,† will help her through, and she doesn’t know that like in her religion Women are suppressed figures here too. In the domestic sphere Mrs. Hayyeh has a raditional Jewish husband who hasn’t supported her in any way through her ambitious ideas, and when her world comes crumbling down, he abandons her and lets her know that â€Å"she should’ve listened to her husband. † Historically, and even today In the Judaism Religion, if a women wasn’t obedient to her husband, all hell would break loose. Not only Judaism but plenty of other religions indicate that a woman must obey her husband. Many men have taken advantage of that and in places like Africa, India, and even the United States domestic violence has alarmingly increased from the roots of these ideas. Humans are entitled to mistakes and choices and by no means should a man get a free pass to emotionally, verbally, or physically abuse a female. It is understandable that woman’s religious beliefs can be very strong but there is a fine line between religion and humanity. It is also imperative to understand that the religious interpretations that women receive, if any, are taught by men, so they may not even have credentials from the actual works of the text from the particular religion.These interpretations are likely altered to be at the convenience of the men, and women often have lack of knowledge which leads to their vulnerability. Many women believe they have to tolerate abuse because of the subservience they have towards their husbands. Slowly, here in the U. S we are managing to move away from this but today there are still many third world countries we’re trying to help progress, and break away from unreasonable perspectives.

It is not until Heathcliff and Catherine stumble upon the Lint on family in Thrushcross Grange that their relationship begins to change due to the fact that Catherine starts feeling a sort of societal pressure that she did not feel before, Catherine does not consider personal feelings, but instead, she focuses on her outward appearance to societywealth justifies social class, and Catherine strives to achieve high status (Meler). Each house is associated with the behavior fitting their description, The Lintons are relatively firm in their gentrys status but nonetheless take great pains to prove this status through their behaviors. The Earnshaws, on the other hand, rest on much shakier ground socially(Meler). When growing up, Catherine was always a rambunctious child. There were no other ladies around so she was never taught how a lady should act. This made it easier for Catherine and Heathcliff to get along. When stumbling across Thrushcross Grange, Catherine is badly hurt by one of the Lintons dogs. The Lintons bring Catherine inside and thinking that Heathcliff is nothing more than a servant tell him to go away. Instead of leaving, Heathcliff watches,When Heathcliff watches Catherine through the window of Thrushcross Grange he watches the Lintons comb Catherines hair and wash h er wounded foot, his purpose is to determine whether she wants to be rescued he waited by the window to determine if Catherine needed him. Catherine stayed at Thrushcross Grange for five weeks. When she does return, there is no longer a wild, hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless (Bront 46) like the Earnshaws remembered instead therelighted from a handsome black pony a very dignified person, with brown ringlets falling from the cover of a feathered beaver, and a long cloth habit, which she was obliged to hold up with both hands that she might sail in (Bront 46). During her stay she at Thrushcross Grange she forgot all about how Heathcliff acted and presented himself. So when she sees him again she laughs and calls him dirty. Heathcliff is greatly hurt by this and he later asks Nelly to help him look presentable. Heathcliffs manners improve as he becomes a higher class. A half-civilized ferocity lurked yet in the depressed brows and eyes full of black fire, but it was subdued; and his manner was even dignified: quite divested of roughness, though too stern for grace (Bronte 83). The son of Hindley, Hareton should be the heir to Wuthering Heights. With land and standing, he ought to be a gentleman. However, Heathcliff refuses to educate him, and everyone else mostly ignores him, so his manners (a very important indicator of class status) are rough and gruff. (Meler) Lower classes do not always get to learn manners and have the ability to present themselves in a dignified way. In the novel, the characters must present themselves well or they will be overlooked and seen as nothing. Lastly, in the novel, it is clear to see that social status in marriage is a huge part of the social contrast between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Catherine, throughout the novel, showed different types of love for two different people. Her love for Heathcliff was her everything, it was her identity to love and live for Heathcliff but as soon as she found out how society views Heathcliff, she sacrificed their love and married Edgar Linton in the hopes of saving Heathcliff from Hindley and protecting him from the eyes of the world.Did it never strike you that if Heathcliff and I married, we should be beggars? Whereas if I marry Edgar, I can aid Heathcliff to rise and place him out of my brothers power. (Bront 71) Catherine thought she could slip beneath passions net and take the offer of Edgars pleasant love, but she is destroyed by her defiance. Her own emotional greed she thought he would be satisfied by her own inward assurance that they were one person. Her passion wa s so real that marriage to her had no reality. (Apter 72) Catherine was going to marry Edgar because of his wealth and status. By marrying Edgar, it would give her a name she can be proud of and the people would envy her. he will be rich, and I shall like to be the greatest women of the neighbourhood, and I shall be proud of having such a husband(Bront 69). This marked the lost of innocence for Catherine because she now knows the rules of society. She used to be so close to Heathcliff that she told Nelly I am Heathcliff(Bront 101). Their naturally formed union has been broken by Catherines marriage and now they must struggle for possession of one another. This struggle is a desperate attack; they cannot be gentle with one another; they must be ruthless in their attempt to maintain their hold upon one another(Apter 71). Edgar knew that Catherine loved Heathcliff more than she would ever love him. Because of this he despises Heathcliff and banes his daughter from ever going to Wutheri ng Heights.His rival destroys his happiness a second time by kidnapping his adolescent daughter, Catherine. The blow is so devastating that Edgar soon dies of grief(Bloom 23). Heathcliff would not have bothered with Edgar Linton and his family had Catherine not married Edgar(Apter 68). In Emily Bronts novel Wuthering Heights, the theme of social class is shown throughout the novel, creating conflicts for the characters of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange.The characters in the novel are affected by social classes in how they should act, how they are treated, and who they can marry, The social class conflicts added to Heathcliffs bitterness because he was rejected by his love due to his social class. It drove Heathcliffs ambition to become wealthier after Catherine marries Edgar instead of him. If it wasnt for the social classes seen in the novel, the characters of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange wouldnt have to deal with the struggles they did.

Born into the likes of a rich family, he often undervalued the importance and value of money reflecting at times during his time as Prime Minister. While in the army serving in various places, he became an accomplished writer and war reporter while also showing his outgoing personality. His oratory (particularly his speeches and radio broadcasts) inspired the British men. These acts helped inspire British resistance, the only active resistance against Hitler and his Nazi forces. Churchill had also spent numerous hours with the British people who were suffering from air raids by the Luftwaffe and typing numerous letters to get U. S. A into the war. Over the next few years when Russia and U. S. A had become allies and began closing in on Germany, Churchill knew this war was over and the allies had won. His prediction was, again, correct. When he announced this, he said, â€Å"This is your victory. The people shouted: No, it is yours. † Many people around the world appreciated the efforts and actions of Churchill; however, with the pinnacle of military victory, he tasted political defeat. The actions of what Winston Churchill had done for all the British people and everyone around the world is beyond words. Without him, Britain and many other countries would have been in serious trouble during WW2 and the firmness of his beliefs had inspired everyone to truly believe in their ideologies, something that we have seen quite a bit since Churchill’s time period. Some examples: Martin Luther King Jr. , Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, Arab Springs protests.
